Where Will This Go?
In which we roll the dice
SO—It’s Friday morning and I’m travelling- first to DC to be with a good friend, and then on to Denver Colorado for a trade show- the International Association of Fairs and Expos tradeshow. We’re taking a calculated risk, introducing the inflatables to an audience of state and county fairs. It may be our audience, it may not, but we won’t know until we go.
I’m assisted in this endeavor by me dear friend Christine who is at this moment driving west with all the gear in her mini-van. We’ll rendezvous tomorrow in Denver then stay with her kids (who live there) for the show, then drive back. I’m so grateful to Christine for being so awesome and helping out so much. She’s invaluable.
An early Creature, telling us to look up for answers.
The whole damn thing is a crap shoot, basically- we know there is an audience for our creatures, we just don’t know exactly WHERE the audience is. So we’re trying different avenues. After this trade show we will be creating some Halloween-themed creatures and going to a Halloween Trade show in St. Louis in late March. There is a huge audience of ‘haunters’—people who build haunted houses—and they gather at an event called ‘Transworld’, which is where we will go, with at least three or four new Creatures, all Halloween themed. Another calculated risk.
At night I lie awake thinking about how to make the creatures better, how to find an audience, where I want them to go. I would love to see them in botanical gardens, art museums, sculpture gardens, music festivals- I just have to find the doors to get in.
Apollo and friends having a nice chat.
They shouldn’t be just entertainment, either- they should be real characters, fully realized beings with thoughts and heart- capable of leaving folks feeling they’ve truly had a wonderful conversation and made a new friend. That’s the real challenge.
Anyway, random thoughts on a Friday morning after a day of thanks. I hope you’re all chillin’.
